“Sweet Senior Photo Sessions”

“Dogs lives are too short. That’s their only fault, really.”

Agnes Sligh Turnbull

Promoting a special photo session for senior dogs in the Dallas, TX area has been on my mind a lot lately. It’s been something I have meant to do for several months but of course, in the midst of everything keeping me so busy, I haven’t made it a top priority. However, all that changed recently.

I love all the dogs I come across, but I have an extra soft spot for senior dogs.

I have two seniors myself,  an ornery 15 year old rat terrier mix and a 10 year old pit bull who is a sweet old teddy bear. I have many photos of the two of them I have taken during my professional career but even now as I write this I am reminded I want to make time to take more! I want to be sure we have their lives and bonds with Jake and I well documented.

Scrappy has been having a hard time lately and his age is really catching up with him. I thought for sure we were going to lose him. I cried over it, worried way too much, spoiled him any way I could think of for several weeks.

Luckily, he has made amazing progress in the past week. I know it’s inevitable that he won’t be with us forever, but I am beyond thankful that we have a little longer.

On that same note, two of my clients have lost their sweet senior dogs over the past few weeks. My heart breaks for the loss of these dogs.

Though I spent just a short time with them, every dog I photograph and bond with has a special place in my heart and memory. Between the pre-consultation before the photo sessions, the photo session, the viewing and ordering session, and then delivering the order, I spend a lot of time with my clients and their dogs.

I really get to know everyone, including the dogs. I remember all the dogs, their personalities, and their stories.

I’m sad for the loss of these sweet old senior dogs but I am happy to know that their personalities and the lives are well documented.

I know I played just a small part but knowing that these clients have the albums and photos to cherish the memories makes me so happy. After losing their dogs, my clients have shared just how much more these photos mean to them now.

I have heard many times how grateful they are that they made time to take the photos. And perhaps just as importantly, that they were in the photos as well with their dogs. There are photos of them playing and laughing and enjoying time with their dog that is now even more treasured.

I have photographed many senior dogs for their owners. Lately even more people have come up to me at events to talk about getting photos of their senior dogs and I have sessions booked throughout the remainder of the year.

I have heard about this so often lately and on top of the recent events it all seemed like a constant reminder that I needed to spread the word about my senior dog photo session. In fact, I have one coming up in less than a week.

Photographing senior dogs and their people is an important job that I don’t take lightly. In every photo session, whether it’s a senior dog or not, I aim to capture the essence of your dog, the bond you have and what makes you and your dog happy.
